Bestway 1935

Yesterday I finally finished the Bestway 1935 sweater. I got delayed because I suffered from some neck and shoulder injuries earlier this year. That meant I had to slow down a lot with knitting. Luckily it's been better the last couple of weeks, so I could finish the sweater.

Knitting this sweater wasn't difficult. Getting proper pictures was a bit harder. I don't know what it was but my hair didn't do, what I wanted it to do. And I took tons of pictures but deleted most of them because I din't like them. I just selected a few which are kind of ok.

The knitting pattern is from the 40s. I didn't change a lot. I only made the sweater a bit longer and increased more stitches to get the right bust size.  Unfortunately I hadn't enough yarn to get cuffs on the sleeves. I even bought quite some wool extra, but I don't have anything left at all! It was a close call! I was really scared I didn't have enough to finish the sleeves. They could be a bit longer, but it's ok.

I tried something new when I was knitting the sleeves. Normally I knit one sleeve and then the 2nd one. This time I knitted both sleeves the same time. If you like to try this, I can recommend this tutorial.

The sweater closes with snaps on the left shoulder. I'm not really fond of this kind of closure. I think I like buttons better then snaps. Next time I will knit buttonholes and sew on buttons if I have a similar closure. But you have to try new things, to learn what you like best.

Now I have to start thinking about my new knitting project. More about that later!

  2. Gorgeous jumper - certainly worth the wait!

Lucky you bought extra wool - though I suppose ti would have looked lovely even with really short sleeves.

Hope your neck and shoulders are back to normal so you can plough on with more knitting!

    1. Thanks! The pattern has an option for short sleeves, too! But I think it's bit impratical. Too cold in winter, too warm in spring.

  5. I love this so very much. Congratulations on a beautiful sweater. If you lived closer, I'd sneak into your house and borrow your clothing:)) We very much have the same style. I love how you were able to add the flowers, this looks like it is difficult to do. So glad that you just made it with your yarn!!

  8. Congratulations on finishing the sweater! And on your shoulder/neck getting better. It seems injuries are very common amongst knitters (know my mom didn't knit for years due to a "tennis-elbow" she got from knitting too much).

    The sweater is beautiful!
