Decisions, Decisions.

I need your help! I have a difficult time making choices when it comes to my coat I want to sew. To start, I have two coat patterns I can use. The first I already showed you a couple of months ago. But some time later I found another coat pattern for a good price too.

Basically, they're quite similar. Except the first coat is more flared at the bottom and has button details at the sleeve. The patterns have different sizes. For a long time I was just in between them, but because I've lost some weight the smaller size will fit me better. That means the 2nd coat will be a better choice.
I really do like the buttons of the first one, maybe I can alter the sleeve of the 2nd pattern and add the buttons.

Then I have to choose a fabric. I've been searching the internet for some time now and I have to many options. Here are my favourites:

Dan moet ik ook nog stof uitzoeken. Al enige tijd he ik nu gezocht op het internet en er zijn nu te veel opties. Hier zijn mijn favorieten:

    1. Fun that you choose those two colors. I didn't had them in mind at first, but when I came across them I realised they were great options too!

  2. I really like both patterns. I think for the first pattern the maroon or black fabric would be nice. However for the second pattern, I think a light camel/nude coloured fabric (as in the pattern picture) would be amazing!

    1. Thanks for your comment Zoe! I wanted to avoid black, because I have already a black coat. Nude and camel aren't really colors which flatter me, so I don't think I will opt for them. Maroon is great! It was one of the colors I had in mind in first instance :)

  3. I'm partial to the burgundy fabric but I'm sure they would all be lovely. Both coats look very similar so I'm sure you might be able to adapt some features to make it your dream coat. I hope you'll share your progress as make it. Such wonderful coat patterns. Good luck on your sewing endeavors!

    1. Thanks :) It's hard to choose! Combining the two features to create my dream coat would be great!

  4. Hi there! I've been following your blog for a little while now, and I thought I would pop out of the background and leave a comment for you. I know what you mean when it comes to making decisions! It can be so challenging. I have to say I like the first pattern best for several reasons. Like you, I like the button details on the sleeves. Also, I like that it flares out more than the other, and too, the buttons extend farther down the coat, though that would easily be alterable with the other pattern. You fabric choices are lovely, my favorites are the dark and light teals- top and bottom pictures, respectively. I wish you the best on this project and look forward to seeing it completed! :)

    1. Thanks for popping out! I think I will be able to adapt some features from the first pattern to the 2nd.
I love those colors too! Maybe I should make a coat each year in every color a like ;)

  5. I'd say use the pattern that fits you the best, a little flare is easy to add to a 6-gored skirt, and the sleeve detail is easily transferred between patterns. To me at least, grading the pattern down would be a whole lot more work... But both pattern of course look adorable!

And the fabrics... Love all of them! My favorite would be the red, but green is always a favorite as well... The pink is not soemthing I'd choose for myself, but it would be lovely on you. Still, red is always red (hmm, might be 'cause I'm dreaming of making a red coat...). I guess it comes down to what you'll wear to it? What matches best your current wardrobe in terms of skirts, dresses, shoes, scarfs, gloves etc that you'd wear with it?

    1. I think I will be able to change the 2nd pattern more to my liking.

The pink one wasn't really a color I had in mind. But when I came across it I fell in love with it.

Good question! My gloves are black and dark brown, my scarfs are aubergine/dark purple. Shoes are brown or black. Hats I have in plenty of colors. My winter wardrobe has lots of darker colors like bourgundy, aubergine, brown, black, dark blue, green, darker shades of grey and some pink.

    1. At this moment I still can't decide. I even thought about making them both :) I'm a bad decision maker!

  7. Oooh, now that is tricky indeed! I love both patterns and all of the fabrics. My "blink" instinct though, to use Gladwell's term for it, is to say the second pattern in teal, dark cranberry, or deep green. Mind you, as pink is my very favourite colour, I am a bit partial to that, too, though I could perhaps see it as being trickier to match with a wide range of winter outfits (and accessories) than some of the others.

*PS* Thank you very much for your trio great blog comments today, dear Anthea. I'm delighted to know that you love all of my Calgary vintage purchases, too. I'm still floating on cloud nine over what a great trip we had and all the lovely finds I unearthed while in Alberta.

    1. After a few days I'm still not sure what to choose. Maybe I should go for 2 coats

  8. Both patterns are lovely :) You could do the second one, with the sleeves from the first pattern.
I am no good at deciding either, I love all colors, but I am partial to the top and bottom one. I checked the source for the fabric, and am rather amazed about the price!! In Norway I would have to pay twice that amount! Guess I know where to get fabric for my skiing outfit :D

Good luck on your deciding, and happy sewing ;)

  11. if you ask me - i would choose no 1. the flared one is better and will look good with a wiggly or a flared skirt ...
colour?! petrol or dark red ... .

    1. Petrol is nice too! But I think I won't use it because it's not going very well with my fall/winter clothes. The dark red is much easier to combine
